Who can see a tour: private, published, listed and no password
A tour is private, published by its link, or listed on Explore. Who can open each, what hosting adds, what visitors see instead, and why there is no password.

The short answer
A tour is private, published by its link, or listed on Explore. Private is the state of every new tour, until you put it in a Vault: it opens only for its owner and the collaborators the owner added, and everyone else gets a 403 page. Published means anyone who has the tour's address can open it, in a page or in an embed. (Every plan can embed a published tour; one that has never been hosted carries Panoramr's branding: see Share a tour.) Listed means it is also on Explore. Hosting, in your plan or in a Vault, is what lets you publish a tour without listing it. Panoramr has no password.
What visitors get
| What you did | Shown on My Tours and the Tour tab as | Anyone else | You and your collaborators |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nothing: a new tour | Draft | A 403 page that says Tour not published and This tour is private: its owner has not published it. |
Can open the tour while signed in |
| Ticked Publish to Global Showcase | Published on explore | Can open the tour at its player address and on its Explore page | Can open it |
| Put the tour in a Vault | In a Vault | Can open the player address, and embed it (a Vault publishes the tour at once). The Explore page opens only if the Showcase box is also ticked | Can open it |
| Put the tour in your plan's hosting | In plan hosting - Not published | Same as a draft until you tick Published; then it reads In plan hosting and anyone can open the player address and embed it | Can open it |
| Unticked Published on a tour in a Vault | In a Vault - Not published | Same as a draft | Can open it |
| The Vault ended (after its grace days) or the plan stopped covering a published tour | The badge stays while it fits free publishing; otherwise In a Vault - Not published or Draft | If it fits free publishing, anyone can still open it, with Panoramr's branding back. If it does not fit, it is made private and you get an email | Can open it |
| Ticked Unpublish / Hide Tour | A tour in a Vault reads In a Vault - Not published; a tour in plan hosting keeps In plan hosting; a listed tour keeps its badge |
A page that says Tour paused and This tour is not available right now. Please check back later. |
Can open it |
| Our team put the tour on hold | Offline or On hold | A 403 page that says This tour is currently unavailable., and no Explore page |
Can open it, and cannot publish it again until the hold is lifted |
A draft's Explore address and its page on the social site show a 404 page instead. Being signed in to Panoramr does not open a draft for you: only the owner and the people added to the tour can.
Who counts as a collaborator
The owner, and everyone added under Project Collaborators on the Settings tab (in the Advanced view), in any of the roles Viewer, Editor and Admin. They must be signed in. The role decides which tabs they see: the owner sets that under Client Workspaces in My Account. To stop sharing, remove the person with the button whose tooltip is Remove Access. Only the owner sees this card.
Our team is not on this list. When someone on our team reviews a report about a tour, they open it with a link that works for 30 minutes, whether or not the tour is published or on hold. You cannot make a link like that. The person you offer a tour to when you hand it over gets a preview link of their own, which opens the tour for 14 days even while it is private.
The address is not a secret
The player address has the tour's number in it, and the Explore address is its name. Treat a published tour as public even if you never post its link.
Reading the labels on screen
- In a Vault and In plan hosting mean the tour is hosted, which takes off Panoramr's branding. Visitors can open the tour only if it is published:
Not publishedafter the name means it is still private. A tour in plan hosting that is also listed on Explore reads Published on explore, not In plan hosting: open the Hosting tab to see where it is hosted. - On My Account, Global Analytics, the Visibility column reads Explore when the tour is in the Global Showcase, Hosted when it is published from hosting, and DRAFT otherwise.
- A tour whose Vault ended keeps the badge. The Vault's page says when it ended, and what visitors see: see What happens when a Vault ends.
What to do instead of a password
- Keep a tour private while you build it. Leave it as a draft.
- Show a draft to a client. Invite them as a Viewer: Share a tour has the steps.
- Share without listing it. Host the tour and tick Published, and leave Publish to Global Showcase unticked. The tour opens for people who have its player address and is not listed on Explore or on your creator profile.
- Take a tour off Explore. Untick Publish to Global Showcase and save. Visitors then see
Tour not published, unless the tour is hosted and Published is ticked. - Pause a published tour. Tick Unpublish / Hide Tour on the Hosting tab. Visitors, on Explore or on another website, see
Tour pauseduntil you untick it. - Take a tour down for good. Move it to the trash with Move to Trash in the Danger Zone card on the Settings tab (in the Advanced view), or with Move this tour to the Trash at the foot of the Tour tab. It stops being served. You can restore it from the Trash tab of the Asset Library. A tour that is in a Vault comes out of it with the delete: a window asks whether the Vault goes to another of your tours or stays empty, and restoring the tour never puts it back in the Vault: see Vault hosting.
Troubleshooting
A client gets a 403 page. The tour is not published and the client is not signed in as someone added to it. Publish the tour, or add the client under Project Collaborators.
I added a client and they still cannot open the tour. They need an account with a confirmed email address, and the invitation is good for 14 days. Pending Invitations lists it and marks it Expired: invite again to renew it. Inviting the same address again renews it.
My tour says In a Vault and visitors get the private message. A tour in your plan's hosting stays private until you tick Published. A tour in a Vault is published at once, so for it the box was unticked: tick it on the Hosting tab and save: Why can't I publish my tour?
Visitors see Tour paused. Unpublish / Hide Tour is ticked on the Hosting tab. Untick it and save.
