Add an image gallery to a hotspot

Show several pictures in one hotspot with the Image Gallery variant: list the addresses, open the gallery window, place the thumbnails and know the limits.

The short answer

Panoramr has no separate gallery or slider tool. (Bottom Nav - Thumbnails on the Design tab is not one: it is a strip for moving between scenes.) A gallery is an infotation with the Image Gallery variant: you list the addresses of the pictures in Select image, separated by commas, and tick Open in Media Window. A visitor who clicks the badge gets a window with one large picture and a row of small ones to click. Without the tick, the hotspot shows only the first picture.

Who can do it

  • The owner, and collaborators whose role includes the Hotspots Tab and the Panoramrs Tab: Editors and Admins by default.
  • Open in Media Window and Thumbnail Position are in the Advanced view; Image Gallery itself is in both views.
  • Any plan.
  1. Upload the pictures to the tour (Upload Assets on the Assets tab, which is in the Advanced view) or to the Asset Library, and copy each one's Address from its details: see Upload and manage files. A JPEG or PNG you upload is saved as a WebP at most 2,000 pixels wide or tall; an SVG or an animated GIF is kept as it is.
  2. Open the Hotspots tab, click a scene, click Add Infotation and click the picture where the badge should go.
  3. Under Variant choose Image Gallery.
  4. In Select image paste the addresses with a comma between them, for example https://example.com/a.webp,https://example.com/b.webp.
  5. Tick Open in Media Window.
  6. Fill in Title and Description / Content if you want text with the gallery.
  7. Open the Preview tab and click the badge to check it.

Browse picks one picture and replaces whatever is in Select image. Use it for the first picture and add the others by hand.

What visitors see

  • With Open in Media Window ticked: a window with a Gallery tab. The large picture is the first address. When there are two or more addresses, a row of small pictures sits below it by default. A click on a small picture shows it large. The title and description appear in a panel under the pictures. There are no arrows, no swipe and no timer.
  • Without the tick: the badge opens the tour's popup (see Add an info hotspot) with the first picture only. The other addresses are ignored.
  • No captions: there is one title and one description for the whole gallery, not one for each picture.

Move the small pictures

Thumbnail Position (Bottom, Top, Left or Right) appears only while Open in Media Window is unticked and Select image holds a comma. The player reads it only when the window opens. So to change it, untick Open in Media Window, choose a position, then tick the box again. The choice stays saved.

Sizes and limits

  • Every picture loads in full when the window opens: the small pictures are the same files, scaled down by the browser. Keep the number and the size of the pictures modest.
  • Select image holds up to 20,000 characters in all. Anything past that is cut when you save.
  • On the live site the tour's page lists where pictures may come from: Panoramr's own addresses and storage, and a few map and Google services. A picture linked from any other website stays empty, so upload it.
  • A save refreshes the stored copy that visitors get, unless the tour has Draft Workflows on: then they see it after Publish Changes (my changes do not show).

Troubleshooting

Only the first picture shows. Tick Open in Media Window. Without the tick the popup uses the first address only.

There is no row of small pictures. The window shows it only when Select image has two or more addresses. Check that a comma separates them.

Browse replaced my list. Browse puts one picture in the box. Paste the other addresses after it.

A picture is blank on the live site. Its address is on another website. Upload it and use the address of the uploaded file.

I cannot find Thumbnail Position. See the section above: it shows only while the box is unticked.

I want a caption for each picture. Panoramr does not offer one.
