Add a call-to-action button to a tour

Send visitors to your website with a Top Nav Bar - Multi Menu button, a web link hotspot or a shop hotspot. Panoramr has no forms or lead capture.

The short answer

Three buttons can send a visitor to a web address: one at the end of the Top Nav Bar - Multi Menu, an External Web Link hotspot, and an E-Commerce Product hotspot with a Buy Now link. The editor has no form builder, lead-capture popup or contact card, and the player has no field where a visitor can type a name or an email address. Panoramr does not record clicks on these buttons (what the analytics count).

Visitors see it At the right end of the bar, in every scene As a badge in one scene As a badge in one scene

Who can do it

The menu bar button is on the Design tab: the owner, and Admin collaborators by default (Save & Render also needs the Settings tab, which Admins have). The hotspots are on the Hotspots tab: the owner, and Editors and Admins by default. The owner can change these roles under Client Workspaces in My Account.

The menu bar is not part of a theme, so its button shows on the public page and in an embed on every plan, in any theme. A free download is the Standard design, which has no menu bar, so the button does not show there; a download of your own design, which comes with a paid plan, has it. The Preview tab always shows it. Hotspots are not part of the design either, so they show on every plan.

Add a button to the menu bar

  1. Open the tour and click the Design tab.
  2. Click Advanced above the list of panels. Button Label and Button Link are hidden in the Basic view.
  3. Under Component Modules click Top Nav Bar - Multi Menu, tick Show Menu Bar and use Build menu to add at least one item (how the menu is built). Until the menu has an item the bar does not show, and neither does the button.
  4. At the bottom of the panel, type the words in Button Label (up to 60 characters) and the address in Button Link. The button needs both. Type the whole address, starting with https://: Panoramr does not add it.
  5. Click Save & Render. If Draft Workflows is on, click Publish Changes to reach visitors (my changes do not show).

Visitors see a rounded button at the right end of the bar. Its colors follow the bar's Look; with Custom colours, the Highlight Colour is its fill. An http or https address opens in a new tab; a mailto: or tel: address does not. An address of another kind, such as javascript:, is dropped, and the button does not show. On a phone (768 pixels wide or narrower) the bar holds the logo, the room title if it is on, and a menu button, and the button sits at the bottom of the menu panel. The label is one language: it does not follow the language a visitor picks.

  1. Open the Hotspots tab and choose the scene in the Panoramas list.
  2. Click Add Infotation, then click the picture where the badge should sit.
  3. In Hotspot Properties, set Variant to External Web Link or E-Commerce Product (the second is in the Advanced view).
  4. Fill in the fields, which appear in this order:
Variant Fields
External Web Link Target URL, Button Text, Title
E-Commerce Product Price, Checkout URL, Title, Description / Content, Select image

There is no Save button: a change is saved half a second after your last one. A saved hotspot reaches visitors at once. If Draft Workflows is on, click Publish Changes (my changes do not show). Type the whole address, starting with https://. An address that starts with another kind, such as mailto: or tel:, is removed when the hotspot is saved.

A visitor who clicks an External Web Link badge goes straight to your address in a new tab. Button Text is saved with the hotspot, but the player does not show it. A click on an E-Commerce badge opens a window with the title, picture, description and price, and its Buy Now button opens the Checkout URL in a new tab. The price is shown as you typed it, and the words Buy Now are fixed.

The Description / Content box of an info hotspot, such as a Classic Panel, takes HTML, so a link can go in its text, for example <a href="mailto:you@example.com">Email us</a>. Links to http, https and mailto addresses are kept when the page is built. A tel: link loses its address, and a <form> is removed.

Troubleshooting

The button does not show in the tour. Check in order: Show Menu Bar is ticked and the menu has an item; Button Label and Button Link are both filled in; the address is an allowed kind; you clicked Save & Render. If it shows in Preview but not on the public page, the stored copy is old: see My changes do not show for visitors.

A click on the hotspot does nothing. Target URL or Checkout URL is empty, or it began with mailto: or tel: and was removed.

The E-Commerce window has no Buy Now button. Checkout URL is empty.
