The Media window: what opens over the tour and how to style it

The window over the tour that shows a room's text, pictures, videos, sound and documents, the floor plan, the map and every room: what opens it and its panel.

On this page

The Media window is the one window that opens over the tour for everything bigger than a hotspot: a room's text, its pictures, videos, sound and documents, the floor plan, the map and every room of the tour. Visitors do not set it up; it opens when they press an icon, a panel tile, an intro page button or some hotspots. You set its look in the Media window panel (Design tab > Media window) in the Design tab.

Who can use it. The owner and, by default, an Admin collaborator can open the Design tab. Every plan has the window. The Media window panel is in the Advanced view only; the window itself works in both views with its default look. The window is part of the standard player design.

When visitors get a change. The preview beside the panels shows it at once. Visitors get it after you click Save & Render, or after Publish changes when the tour uses Draft Workflows (My changes do not show for visitors).

What the window shows

The window has a row of tabs at the top and a close button. A tab is there only when the tour has something for it.

Tab What it holds When the tab is there
Overview (called About when the Info and media panel is on) The room's name and text The room has a description
Pictures The pictures of a room or of the whole tour, large, with arrows, a strip of the others and a count such as "2 of 4"; also a hotspot's picture gallery Opened with pictures to show
Videos An MP4, or a YouTube or Vimeo video Opened with a video to show
Sound The room's or the tour's sounds, as a list Opened with sounds to show
Documents The room's or the tour's PDFs and text files, as a list Opened with documents to show
Floor Plans The tour's floor plan The tour has a floor plan
Map The map of where the panoramas were taken At least one panorama has a position
Panoramas A grid of a picture of every room. The tab is named by the Modal button label Opened by a Room Pictures button or link
View All Rooms A list of every room by name. The tab is named by the Button label A bar has its List All Rooms icon on

A visitor can press a tab to go from one to another. A video or sound stops when they leave its tab or close the window.

What opens it

  • A bar's Room Info icon opens it on the room on show, with its text and media. Where the room and the tour both have something, two buttons at the top, This room and Whole tour, switch between them. A room with nothing of its own opens on the tour's.
  • A bar's Room Pictures icon, Floor Plan icon, Map icon and List All Rooms icon open it on that tab. These icons are in the Icon bar, the Top nav bar – dropdown, the Top nav bar – multi menu and the foot links of the Side nav – list menu.
  • The Info and media panel opens it on a picture, a video or the larger view of what it shows.
  • An info hotspot with a picture gallery, a video hotspot, and a picture hotspot set to open in the media window open it on their pictures or video.
  • An intro page button set to Open a window opens it on the floor plan, the map, all the rooms or the room's information.

What visitors can do

  • Close it with the cross, or by pressing outside it. For a picture opened from a hotspot, Escape closes it too.
  • Press the left and right arrow keys to move through pictures or videos (in a right-to-left language the keys swap).
  • A video from YouTube or Vimeo waits for the visitor to press play, unless they have allowed embedded video in the cookie settings, because those players come from other companies.
  • On a narrow screen the row of tabs scrolls, and the tab in use is brought into view.

The Media window panel in the Design tab

The panel is in the Content group of the list of modules. It has three tabs. The panel holds the settings of the two lists of rooms in the window, not the media itself: a room's media is chosen on the Panoramas and Tour tabs (Info and media panel).

Tab Cards and settings
Pictures Room pictures: the label of the button, how big the pictures are, how many to a row and how wide the window is. Groups: Group by categories and Category filter. Every setting is listed here
Room list Button label, Group by categories, Columns, Item spacing and Font size. The list is there when a bar has its List All Rooms icon on
Style Room list style: Font family, Background colour and Text colour

Room pictures and room list settings in the Design tab says what each of these starts as, what it does and what visitors see.

Troubleshooting

The Map or Floor Plans tab is missing. The tour needs a floor plan on the Floor Plans tab, or a panorama with a position. The tab is left out when there is nothing to show.

A Room Info icon is dimmed. Neither the room nor the tour has any text or media. See The Info & Media Panel.

The tab that lists the rooms is missing. It is there only when a bar has its List All Rooms icon switched on.

I cannot find the Media window panel. It is in the Advanced view only. Switch the view at the top of the editor.
