The short answer

The bell shows what has happened to your things: likes, comments, new followers, and notices about tours, reports and pictures. Click it for your newest 20, or View all notifications for the list. A number on the bell counts the unread ones, up to 9+. Notifications are deleted when they are 30 days old. Likes, comments and new followers are never sent by email.

Where the bell is

  • In the site header, before Dashboard, when the window is 1,024 pixels wide or more. That covers the website and the app pages such as My Tours, the tour editor, the Asset Library and My Account. Below 1,024 pixels the header has no bell, and its menu has none either.
  • On the social site, app.panoramr.com: in the bar at the bottom, between the plus button and your picture. A post's or tour's own page has no bar.
  • In the bar at the bottom of a website page (Explore, Search, creator and tour pages, and the notifications page), when the window is under 640 pixels wide, such as a phone.

Where there is no bell, open www.panoramr.com/notifications, app.panoramr.com/notifications or pro.panoramr.com/notifications. It is the same list, headed Notifications, 20 to a page with Previous and Next.

What produces a notification

What happens What it says
Someone likes your post or tour <name> liked your post. or <name> liked your tour. One for each person while the first one is still kept: unliking and liking again makes no second one, but after 30 days it makes a new one
Someone comments on it <name> commented on your post: "<the comment, cut at 30 characters>", or your tour. One for each comment
Someone follows you <name> started following you. One for each person while the first one is still kept: after 30 days the same person following again makes a new one
A tour is shared with you (only if you already had a confirmed account with that address) <name> shared "<tour>" with you as a <role>.
A tour is offered to you <name> has offered you ownership of the tour "<tour>".
A report about something of yours is decided, or a second look A title and a statement of what was decided and why: Report a tour, a picture, a post or a person
A picture of yours is flagged or reviewed A title and a message. Only when Panoramr's picture check is in use: What Panoramr keeps about your photos
A Vault, plan hosting or a tour handover A title and a short message with a link to the page it is about

You get nothing for your own likes and comments.

Read and unread

An unread notification has a small blue dot in the bell's list. On the notifications page its row has a tinted background and a blue bar down its left edge. Click one to open what it is about, and it is marked read. Mark all read in the bell's header marks them all, and shows only while something is unread.

On pages at pro.panoramr.com (My Tours, the tour editor, the Asset Library, My Account), Mark all read clears the number on the screen but saves nothing: the notifications stay unread, and the number comes back with the next page you open. Clicking a single notification does save there. To mark them all for good, use the bell on a page of the website or the social site.

How many, and how long

The bell lists your 20 newest, read or not. The number counts every unread one. A daily job deletes notifications that are 30 days old, read or not. Each row shows who did it, with their picture, what they did and how long ago; a notice from Panoramr has a bold title instead of a name. There is no setting to turn notifications off or to choose which ones you get, and no way to delete one by itself: they leave after 30 days, or with the post they are about if you delete the post.

Email

Likes, comments and new followers are never emailed, and neither are the notices about a picture of yours: they are only in the bell. Others, such as a report decision or a tour offered to you, come by email as well.
