The short answer
You can give a tour to one of its collaborators. On the tour's Settings tab (in the Advanced view), under Project Collaborators, click the two-arrows icon beside their name (Initiate Ownership Transfer) and confirm. The person gets an email and a notification, opens the tour's Settings page and clicks Take Ownership. The tour then moves into their account with all of its files, and you stay on it as an Admin. No payment is involved: to give a tour to a client who pays for its hosting, see Hand a tour over to a client.
Who can do it
- Only the owner, with a confirmed email address. Offering a tour is held for an unconfirmed account in the same way as publishing: see Why can't I publish my tour?.
- To someone who is already on the tour, in any role. To give a tour to someone who is not, invite them first and wait until they have confirmed their address: they then appear under Active People.
- One offer at a time. Offering the tour to someone else replaces the open offer. An offer lasts 30 days. Only you can cancel it, and removing the person from the tour cancels it too.
Offer the tour
- Open the tour and click its Settings tab (click Advanced at the right end of the tab row first if the tab is not there).
- Under Project Collaborators, find the person in Active People.
- Click the two-arrows icon at the right of their row. Its tooltip reads Initiate Ownership Transfer.
- Confirm
Are you SURE you want to formally initiate an ownership transfer? They will be notified to accept it.A box then says the request has been sent.
The row now reads Tour transfer has been initiated. To cancel, click the same icon, whose tooltip is now Revoke Pending Transfer, and confirm.
A tour cannot be offered while it is in the trash, while our team has it on hold, or when some of its panoramas are also in another tour or in a post: a panorama belongs to one owner, so take them out of the other tour, or delete the post, first. The page says which.
What the other person does
They get an email, and a line in the notification bell: <your name> has offered you ownership of the tour "<tour>". Both open the tour's Settings page, where the card Accept Tour Ownership says The creator has offered to transfer full ownership of this tour to you.
- Click Take Ownership.
- Confirm
Are you sure you want to take permanent ownership of this Tour? The current owner will become an Admin.
If their role has no Settings tab, use the link in the email or the notification, or the Settings icon on the tour's row in My Tours. A tab that is open is always in the tab row, in the Basic view too. While an offer is open, the person can open the Settings page whatever their role.
What moves, and what stays
The tour's files are copied into the new owner's account and checked before the tour changes owner, so every picture and tile still shows. A big tour takes longer; the new owner can leave the page, and both of you get an email when it has arrived. While the files move, changes made from the tour's pages are refused (This tour is being moved to its new owner, which takes a few minutes. Try again when it has arrived.). Your old copies are removed after the move has been checked. If anything fails, nothing has changed and the tour is still yours, and you are told.
Goes to the new owner:
- The tour: its scenes and their pictures, their order, hotspots, floor plans, design, settings, address and views. It does not arrive published: see below.
- Files on the tour's Assets tab, trash included, and the custom hotspot icons the tour uses (they get a copy; you keep yours). They count against the new owner's library.
Stays with you:
- Other files in your Asset Library and your other custom icons.
- Your posts.
Stays on the tour: other collaborators and pending invitations. What they can open now follows the new owner's Client Workspaces.
You become an Admin on the tour. It moves from your own list in My Tours to Shared, marked Shared with me. You can no longer invite people, offer the tour, tick the publishing boxes or restore it from the trash, and the new owner can change your role or remove you. To get the tour back, ask the new owner to offer it to you.
Plans, hosting and the Vault
- The new owner's plan sets the limits. The tour's panoramas count in the new owner's account. If their account has no room for them, clicking Take Ownership says so and nothing starts: ask them to make room (delete panoramas, or buy a Vault) first. The panoramas no longer count in yours.
- Nothing you paid for comes along. A Vault that hosts the tour is taken out of it and stays yours, empty, to use for another tour. Plan hosting stops. The tour is private until the new owner publishes it. If it was listed on Explore, it stays listed only when it fits the new owner's free publishing.
- To send a Vault with the tour, hand the tour to a client and choose
I pay: Hand a tour over to a client. - The public copy is made again for the new owner when the move ends (a tour that publishes drafts keeps its published copy, carried to the new owner's folder). Panoramr's branding follows the tour's hosting each time somebody opens it: see My changes do not show for visitors.
Troubleshooting
There is no transfer icon. Only the owner sees Project Collaborators, and the person must be under Active People: a pending invitation cannot be offered a tour.
The icon sends me to the Check your inbox page. Your email address is not confirmed.
The person lands on My Tours with You do not have permission to manage this tour's settings. If you received an ownership transfer request, it has either expired or been revoked. The offer was canceled, ran out after 30 days, or was replaced by an offer to someone else.
It says the tour is being handed over already. An offer to a client is open, or the tour is already moving to its new owner. Withdraw the client offer, or wait for the move to end.
The move did not finish. You got an email. Nothing changed and the tour is yours. Offer it again, and write to us if it happens again.
I cannot delete my account. A tour of yours is moving. Wait for it to arrive: see Delete your account.
